| A62 Geldard Road/Dark Lane - Proposed Toucan Crossing (ends 9th May 2008) | Topics | Posts |

A62 Geldard Road/Dark Lane - Proposed Toucan Crossing Please find attached for your consideration a proposed Toucan crossing on the A62 Gelderd Road, Birstall. This crossing forms part of a planning condition for the new Ocado site on Dark Lane. This crossing will assist pedestrians and cyclists crossing this busy road and will also slow traffic down at this location. This crossing facility has also been designed to improve vehicular movements in an out of the Dark Lane/ Geldard Road junction as a queue loop detector is being placed on Dark Lane. This will detect vehicles queuing back to a certain point and call the Toucan crossing. This will provide gaps in the traffic allowing vehicles out of Dark Lane. This will mean that the crossing will be called even when there is no one waiting to cross, we are currently looking at a way to sign this to ensure that the signals are not violated. |

| Halifax Road in Hightown ends 25 April 08 | Topics | Posts |

Proposed local road safety scheme for A649 Halifax Road in Hightown As part of the consultation process, I would like to tell you about a proposal to introduce road safety measures at the above location. The need for a safety scheme has been identified after a number of road safety concerns in the area. It's also been identified through Hightown First and Nursery School's travel plan that specifies 'crossing the road' as the main problem. The road is restricted to a 30mph speed limit but is very difficult to cross, particularly for school children, because of the high volume of traffic. Our proposal is to put in a signalised pedestrian crossing on Halifax Road outside the school. This will help pedestrians, especially school children, to cross this busy road. It will also slow traffic down at this location. We are also proposing the use of high friction coloured surfacing, road markings and signs on both approaches to the pelican crossing. These facilities will improve road safety for all road users, particularly pedestrians. I have attached a plan (TF/06/210/CON1) for you to take a look at. This plan shows the extent of the proposals. I have also attached a copy of the scheme feedback questionnaire. Please complete this questionnaire and return it to us in the freepost envelope provided by Friday 25 April 2008. We look forward to hearing your views. A larger scaled plan is available to view at the Highways and Transportation Services on Flint Street, Fartown, Huddersfield HD1 6LG. The viewing time will be between Monday to Friday, 9am till 4pm. It's hoped that the scheme will be in place by late summer 2008. As soon as we get your feedback, the crossing proposal will be formally advertised. I will then be able to consult with you further about specific dates for the work to start. If you would like any more information, please contact Khaleel Mohammed on (01484) 225679 or email khaleel.mohammed@kirklees.gov.uk www.freewebs.com/kbug-consultation/TF-06-210-CON1.pdf |

limited waiting to 30 minutes Following the recent highway improvements along Westgate, Cleckheaton a lay-by was constructed to provide short term parking and loading for local businesses. It will also prevent inappropriate parking on the footway. As a result of this work, the existing no waiting Monday to Saturday restriction needs to be replaced by limited waiting to 30 minutes, as detailed on the attached plan. I would be pleased to receive any comments you wish to make on the proposals, within three weeks of the date of this letter, before the proposals are formally advertised. If you would like any further information, please contact Alison Cockayne on: (01484) 225638 or email: alison.cockayne@kirklees.gov.uk www.freewebs.com/kbug-consultation/LimitedWaiting-Layby.pdf |

Proposed Road Safety Improvements B6123 West Park Road / Healey Lane - Batley There have been a number of road traffic accidents on the B6123 West Park Road / Healey Lane in Batley. These accidents are spread throughout the route, with particular areas of concern at the junctions of Deighton Lane and Hayburn Road. Kirklees Councils Highways officers have been working to try and identify ways to improve road safety at the junctions and also along the route. http://www.kirklees.gov.uk/transport/kbug/consultations/cbw-Area1Plan.pdf http://www.kirklees.gov.uk/transport/kbug/consultations/cbw-Area2Plan.pdf http://www.kirklees.gov.uk/transport/kbug/consultations/cbw-Area3Plan.pdf |
